Welcome students!

This whole group started on discord, due to it's functionality being quite extensive compared to other popular apps such as whatsapp, instagram and snapchat; but what do we have on there?

​First! Join our discord here

Here's the channels listed under "Welcome", go into the #verify channel and post either a screenshot of your current class schedule (with name visible) or your school ID so we can confirm you are a student, you will then be given access to the rest of the discord.

In the #role-selection channel you can self assign roles such as the program and year you are in, helpful for finding your classmates!

#intros is where you should post your intro, let us know who you are, what you like!

#rules are very important, and keep the discord a safe, reasonable place to be, ignorance of the rules is not an excuse!

#announcements is where we will post important info like events, general club updates and so on.

In the text channel you'll find some important info and channels:

#general is for general chatting

#contact-info is where you drop any of your socials if you want to connect outside of the discord with fellow students

#the-dorms is for students living in the dorms to connect and share info on that dorm life! Meet your neighbours!

#faculty-emails is where we have collected the emails of current profs and faculty responsible for our programs. Most profs will share theirs at the beginning of the semester, but here's a quick list in case you forget

#international-students-lounge is for our international students!  Meet up, share experiences unique to being an international student!

#sketches is a great channel to share any of your school (or not!) related sketches!

Strike a pose and post in the #photos-and-selfies channel!

#memes are gifs, copypastas, and images that make you say "mood"

#wholesome-motivation is for when you're down and you need a pick me up. Feeling defeated by an assignment? Feel like quitting? Check this channel out first!

#gaming When we do have free time (free time, what's that?) We like to game! Connect with other gamers, whether PC or Console! We also have a Valheim server set up for students, join us!

#music for those bangers, bops, deep cuts and hidden gems, post your musical finds here!

Most notable is our #design-competitions channel, we'll post interesting design competitions in this channel. If you're interested in starting a team, message the treasurer with the competition details, your team members  names' and we can see about getting your entrance fee covered. You can also request a private channel for your team (as the team for the Mixing Middle design competition has done!)

We also have a voice chat channel #hang-out-vc when you can lounge and chill with other classmates

The Architectural Studies Collective grew out of a need for students to connect with each other during this time of online learning, social distancing, and COVID.

During the introductory week of the 2021-22 school year, students were looking for ways to connect with their fellow classmates. Whatsapp, instagram and snapchat were very popular, but we started a discord server.

We chose discord because of the functionality of the program. It has a desktop and phone app, voice and text chats, channels for separate topics, and even the ability to share screens (very useful for helping each other through assignments!)

What started as a simple way to connect, evolved into a place where students came for help with assignments, discuss the class material, and developed into what it is now.

We decided to become a student group with the college because there wasn't already a group for our programs, but there is ample opportunity for us as students to really stretch ourselves and expand our networks and skills beyond the school.
